There are a variety of ways to get around Downtown Bloomington. The city is easy to navigate with a grid street layout and a large number of attractions concentrated in a walkable or driveable downtown.
Bloomington has one of the nation’s best public transit systems, integrating city bus routes with the campus bus routes. Bloomington is also world-renowned for its bicycle and pedestrian-friendly environment. We’re home of the “Little 500” bicycle race, after all, which was the basis for the movie “Breaking Away”. Alternative transportation is a way of life in our city. That doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about conventional transportation, though—you can easily walk to places on foot, catch a city bus or IU campus bus, call a taxi, rent a vehicle or scooter, and even ride around in a limo. Or, if you simply prefer, you can drive your own vehicle and park in one of our affordable parking garages or hundreds of on-street parking spots. And, with our extensive trail system—including the 3.1 mile B-line through the heart of Downtown—walkers, runners, cyclists and skaters are able to experience the energy and beauty of Downtown at their own pace.
